Boxes
“Box” may seem a bit of an odd word for wood creations that are never square or rectangular in shape. But box is the name they go by, owing to the fact there’s a top and bottom and a compartment inside.
Why can’t they be rectangular or square? Because they’re created on a lathe … so every shape begins as a cylinder.
The majority of the 100+ boxes I’ve created are under 5″ tall and 2-3″ wide. I’ve used a wide variety of woods, including cherry, bird’s eye maple, and ebony.
It’s very satisfying to turn a raw block of wood into a fun finished product (at least those times when I don’t do something silly like turn my way right through the bottom of the box I’m creating after four hours of work).
Here’s a slide show of some of the boxes I’m made. The images change after a four second delay, but you can speed things up by clicking any pic.
