Astrophotography
One love of mine is astronomy. Over the past few years, my son Drew and I have gotten into astrophotography.
Here’s a slide show of some of our astro images. The image displayed changes every 4 seconds and you can click the displayed image to speed things up.
Ganymede Passing Jupiter … From 7:15 pm Until 11:15 pm March 8 2013
The animation below shows Jupiter’s moon, Ganymede, as it orbits in front of Jupiter over a four hour period. Ganymede is the largest moon in the solar system … it’s larger than the planet Mercury.
You will also see the Great Red Spot rotate out of view on Jupiter itself. The GRS is a giant storm that’s larger in diameter than Earth and has existed for over 100 years.
The animation was created by taking 40 short videos of Jupiter over 4 hours. Each video was then turned into a single frame image and the 40 images in turn used to create this animation. About half way through the four hours of observing, the skies above my home in Florida became hazy and the images in the animation degrade substantially.
Click the image below and the animation will open in a pop-up window and play for you … it should play three times through. Hope you enjoy.
